Rice Military as shown in the blue area is an eclectic blend of approximately 2,000 homes. The area was named "Rice" as the people who owned it were members of the Rice family; the Rice family included William Marshall Rice, who founded the Rice Institute which is now Rice University.
The term "Military" is a reference to the neighborhood's bordering of what was once Camp Logan, a World War I-era U.S. Army training Camp. Close enough to Memorial Park to walk, jog or bike to. Grow your own vegetables at Nellies Keyes Park an urban community park. Washington Corridor as shown in orange with Washington Street running through it has all the restaurants and nightclubs for a night on the town. At one time Washington Avenue was called Washington Road and connected Houstn proper with Camp Logan. |
